Training

Post Graduate Fellowship

The Emotion Management Program offers a post graduate fellowship for new clinicians interested in intensive training in contextual behavioral practices and contextually focused dialectical behavior therapy in particular. Emphasis is placed on the application of this approach for adults and older adolescents. As part of their training, fellows will interact with participants from diverse socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.

All training activities are conducted on Monday afternoon. These include:

EMP Seminar Series

2:00 – 3:30 PM
A weekly seminar focused on contextual behavior approaches. Participants will become familiar with the work of various researchers and theorists including Marsha Linehan, Steven Hayes, Lisa Feldman Barrett and Bruce Perry in the process of learning the chronic distress model and contextually-focused dialectical behavior therapy.

EMP Team Consultation Meeting

4:00 – 5:30 PM
A weekly meeting of EMP staff and trainees. The primary function of the meeting is to provide therapy for EMP therapists. The team provides support, validation, and accountability for all members.

C-DBT Process Group

6:00 – 7:30 PM
A weekly group in which participants are introduced to the five processes aimed to assist them in making a transition from chronic distress to a meaning directed life.

Fellows are expected to be available Monday afternoons for the training activities outlined above. Although not assured, should a fellow be assigned an individual case, they will receive weekly individual supervision by an EMP staff member. Fellows may also be responsible for managing program evaluation data. We require a eight month commitment from the first Monday of October to the second Monday of May.
