Training for C-DBT Team at FamiliesFirst Counseling and Psychiatry, Maryland

In 2025, Paul Holmes, Psy.D. conducted in-session training for staff in the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Program at Families First Counseling and Psychiatry (FFCP). FFCP has several locations in the state of Maryland.

The three sessions provide an overview of a modified version of DBT currently referred to as Contextually Focused Dialectical Behavior Therapy (C-DBT). Comprehensive C-DBT involves the four components outlined by Marsha Linehan: group, individual sessions, telephone coaching and consultation for therapists.

C-DBT involves three processes:

  1. Consciousness Raising to historical factors organizing present behavior.
  2. Developing Freedom From historical antecedents to present behavior.
  3. Contact the Freedom To organize behavior in relation to future aspirations.

These three processes organize both the group and individual sessions in C-DBT.  The training videos provide an overview of the implementation of these processes over the course of the individual therapy.
