(they/them)

Em Sandberg, AM, LSW, PhD, is currently a fellow in the Emotion Management Program Fellowship and an IBT- and C-DBT-informed therapist at Room To Breathe Yoga and Psychotherapy in Lakeview, Chicago.

Working from the assumption that each client unconditionally matters and belongs, Em believes transformation arises from the willingness of two humans to be present to the moment, themselves, and each other. Through this relationship, therapy with Em provides a space to explore what it means to embody a truly meaningful life.

Em earned their Master of Arts in Social Work from the University of Chicago’s Crown Family School for Social Work, Policy, and Practice. Em completed Crown School’s Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse (AODA) certificate and is a candidate to obtain the Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CADC) certificate. Em has a background working as a harm-reductionist substance use counselor at Above & Beyond Recovery Center, high school counseling intern, hospice attendant, and crisis phone counselor.

Em received a Bachelors in Philosophy and German Studies from Vassar College in 2015 and a PhD in German Studies from University of California, Berkeley. Em continues to be passionate about facilitating learning environments and shining a light on how stories are told, crafted, and informed by their surrounding cultures and environments. When Em is not working, they love to run, sauna, and write movie reviews on Letterboxd.
