Abbas has been a helping professional for nearly 20 years, working with populations from pediatrics to geriatrics. Before becoming a therapist, Abbas worked as a spiritual care provider for over ten years in the hospital and hospice settings including Rush University Medical Center and Lurie Children’s Hospital.

Abbas offers a compassionate presence and a therapeutic approach that is primarily informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). As Director of Community Outreach at EMP LLC, he is committed to building relationships with professionals that enhance patient-centered care.

Abbas has Masters degrees in Divinity and Social Work from the University of Chicago. He holds certificates in Health Administration and Policy and Trauma-Informed Care from the University of Chicago. Abbas is certified by the Behavioral Tech Institute (previously known as the Linehan Institute) in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. He is also a PEERS® Certified Provider. Abbas is a candidate in the Sokolov Executive MBA Program at University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.

As much as he loves learning, he enjoys teaching, too. Abbas co-teaches Motivational Interviewing at The University of Chicago Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice.

Out of the office, Abbas loves anything to do with space and sci-fi, dogs, and watching his indoor plants thrive. Abbas also volunteers at KEEN Chicago, where he supports their mission to empower disabled youth.
